Weight Loss - The Key to Achieving Successful Weight Loss

If you are currently trying to experience a weight loss, there are some key factors you need to know.

With all the different quick weight loss diets out there, it's hard to decipher what's right from wrong.

While everyone would love a 'quick fix', some of these 'quick fixes' out there can actually do more harm than good, making you gain weight in the long run. Obviously NOT what you want.

So, what's the key to successful weight loss? What can you do to finally lose body fat for good?

Understanding the principles behind weight loss will help you get to the root of why you have failed in your attempts in the past.

Here are the weight loss tips you need to know.

Calories: The Weight Loss Key

When it comes to losing weight, the number one thing that will be the determining factor as to whether or not you do or do not lose weight is your calorie intake.

No matter how many different weight loss diets out there tell you that you can eat as much as you like and still lose weight, this simply defies the laws of thermodynamics.

In order to lose weight effectively, you must burn off more calories during the day than you consume in food, in order to create a caloric deficit. This essentially then forces your body to turn to its body fat stores as a means of fuel, thus removing that body fat.

Keep in mind though that 'burning' off more calories than you eat does not mean exercising them off.

Your basic metabolic rate contributes the largest percentage of total calorie burn (unless you are an endurance athlete, in which case your physical activity may trump metabolic rate). For the average person, they will burn between 1200 and 1600 calories simply existing!

So, if all you did was sit on the couch all day but still managed to eat a few hundred calories below these values, you would still lose weight - not that I'd recommend sitting on the couch all day, but it is possible to lose weight without exercise as long as you are smart enough with your diet.

Increasing Your Muscle Mass

Also keep in mind that the more muscle mass tissue you have, the higher that basic metabolic rate will be, therefore the more food you can eat on a daily basis while maintaining or losing weight.

This is one reason why weight lifting is so important when you are trying to lose weight. While cardio activity may burn more calories minute by minute, in the long run, weight lifting and this increased muscle mass will burn more calories throughout the entire day.

What's better? Slugging away on cardio machines to burn off your calories or simply burning more while you do your everyday activities? I think it's clearly obvious which is preferable.

So, if you are hoping to lose weight for good, you absolutely MUST get on a diet program that has some sort of regulation of calories. If you believe otherwise, chances are you are just going to waste more time spinning your wheels without making progress. Haven't you wasted enough time with the weight loss battle? Get on a program that will change the way your body looks - for good.
